‘Femalia’ a juried group show at Praxis Gallery by Claude Peschel Dutombe

A wonderful group show opened last week at Praxis Gallery - ‘FEMALIA’, juried by Elizabeth Flinsch.

“We are programmed to understand gender and femininity within narrow and restrictive definitions. Photographs, both historical and contemporary, often reinforce these definitions and boundaries that no longer serve us.

Photography has the power to transcend all manner of boundaries. It can blur miniscule lines between otherwise dichotomous realms of physical and philosophical space. If we are to reflect on photography’s capacity to challenge concepts of gender and femininity, we enter into an extraordinary opportunity to re-envision and expand our understanding of all who identify as women. We can confront our programmed understandings and reinterpret, both what is in front of the camera and what is behind it.

Praxis Gallery presents photographic art or lens-based artwork that challenges, criticizes, redefines, and disrupts our concepts of female identity.”

One work from ‘Ayuthaya Heritage’ is part of it.

‘Intimate Portraits’ - at PhotoPlace Gallery by Claude Peschel Dutombe

"To my mind, the title 'Intimate Portraits' describes portraits that go beyond the surface and explore or reveal a deeper vision of the subject. This can be accomplished by showing an environmental context, capturing a telling expression, or, as in the case of the image that won the juror’s award, construction of a magical vision that does not exist outside the mind of the artist."
Joyce Tenneson -Juror’s Statement

Joyce Tenneson, a master in the field of portrait photography in her own rights, juried this group exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery.

A print from 'Ayutthaya Heritage' was selected for participation.

9th Pollux Award - Finalist by Claude Peschel Dutombe

The "Ayutthaya Heritage" series made it into the group of finalists of the 9th POLLUX AWARD in the portrait category.

I am so happy that this work keeps on moving around representing the Cultural Heritage of the old Kingdom of Siam.
It would be great to see a larger selection of this series as a traveling exhibition some day in the future.

"Tribe" - juried group exhibition at Lightbox Photographic Gallery by Claude Peschel Dutombe

"Tribe" - group exhibition at Lightbox Photographic Gallery, juried by Blue Mitchell.

"In this world with many species of earth’s creatures, the central group that binds us together and allows us to cope with our existence, is family. Our peers, cousins, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, pets, neighbors and so on. Whatever central group we identify with or are connected to by blood, however small or large, our Tribe nourishes and protects. Our Tribe is central to our identity. We find comfort with our most intimate, supporting and loving group."

One family portrait from "Ayutthaya Heritage" is participating in this show.
